Explore the newest FLEX Collections with resources designed at 3 levels making it easy for teachers to adapt to student needs, further supporting ready-to-go instruction, and job-embedded PD.  These Collections also pair with NEW PRO packs on Visual Literacy and Experimentation, Practice, and Persistence, strengthening the Curriculum Suite narrative.

FLEX Collection: Experiment, Practice, and Persist

Explore the new FLEX Collection, Experiment, Practice, and Persist, and have your students use a variety of media and processes to engage in artistic experimentation, pursue personal interests, and overcome challenges. Students will use visual journaling, documentation, and planning tools to engage in purposeful practice, make thinking visible, set goals, and track growth.

FLEX Collection:  Visual Literacy

Explore the new FLEX Collection, Visual Fluency, and have your students decode maps, use metaphors, and express art elements through movement. Guide students in reading artworks, finding themes in text and art, and creating image captions. By combining these skills, students develop a deep sense of how language and images connect.

If you’re looking for short, easy-to-implement lessons for your early learners, this content is for you. We’ve expanded our K–1 curriculum offering by introducing engaging, short, comprehensive K–1 instructional materials. Review our three newest Collections, discover new front-of-classroom videos, and explore premade classes and units for kindergarten and first grade.

Dive into the world of art with 5 new front-of-classroom videos, perfectly tailored for K-1 visual arts teachers. Explore "Intro to Drawing," "Painting," "Printmaking," "Sculpture Tools and Materials," and "Intro to Digital Art Tools and Equipment" to enrich your curriculum and ignite your students' creativity. These videos are designed to make art concepts accessible and engaging for your young learners, setting a strong foundation for their artistic journey.

My Classes:

Embark on a vibrant educational journey with our "Kindergarten Essentials" and "1st Grade Foundations," meticulously designed to offer 74 hours of captivating art instruction. Each class, comprising four themed units, introduces essential skills and concepts, laying the groundwork for your students' first steps into the visual arts. Access and tailor these classes to your teaching needs through the links on the implementation page.

  • Kindergarten Essentials: The 4 units include essential skills and concepts for students in their first year of art class. Units are curated by theme and cover 32 lessons providing  36 hours of instruction. 
  • 1st Grade Foundations: The 4 units cover a breadth and depth of essential visual arts skills and concepts for first grade. Units are curated by theme and include 34 lessons providing 38 hours of instruction.

    FLEX Curriculum: Updates to FLEX Lesson Plan Layout

    Look for updates to the FLEX Lesson Plan layout, designed for ease of use. 

    • Lesson plans have a larger view of the example artwork at the top of the page.
    • Description, objectives, teaching strategies, supplies, studio time, and standards are all above the fold.
    • AOEU branding upon print and download makes it easy for you to remember where content is from, and come back for more.
    • Standards are organized in an accordion view.
    • Related content and collections are referenced at the bottom of each lesson, making it easy for you to continue to explore.

    PRO Learning Extended Module:  Early Childhood Teaching and Learning

    PRO Extended content helps teachers plan, instruct, and assess student needs and learning.  The new module, Early Childhood Teaching and Learning, is located in the PRO Pack Finding Success With Kindergarten.


    AOEU Integration with Clever

    Teachers and districts that use Clever, the single sign-on platform, can now find The Art of Education University in the Clever library, making it faster and easier to access all that AOEU has to offer.  Login to your AOEU account using your Clever login.
